Ruairi Fallon is a Belfast born artist, currently based in London. His work is concerned with the conversations surrounding Irish identity, its pre-conceptions, romances and contradictions. Ruairis process uses historical documents and found/archive images to provide a context, then moving on to create a more current insight of Irish identity and Landscape. Some of the recent work in the Gallery is the result of a cycling trip around Ireland covering over 2500 miles. This presented multiple opportunities for documenting the landscape and people encountered on the journey, "...On a long spin through rural Longford a house presented itself, well lived but succumbing to abandonment and the Irish weather. The house presented a series of fascinating artifacts including a series of old photographic slides. I have been producing a body of works based on these photographs, an interesting insight into Alberta Kearneys life. A seeming well traveled figure who began and lived out her days in Longford. These slides were accompanied by several letters corresponding with family in The Middle East, offering a fascinating insight into the occupant of the house and have provided an interesting starting point for these works."
We have several prints available at the Gallery which offer a fascinating insight into this subject.
